Zurab Urushadze (born August 22, 1930) is a Georgian biophysicist, one of the founders of Quantum Biophysics and Bioelectrochemistry in Georgia, PhD, Professor. In 1955 he graduated from the Moscow State University. In 1955- 1957 Urushadze was a Research Fellow of NIOPIK ( Moscow), in 1958- 1977 - Leading Engineer-Physicist (1958-1971) and Senior Research Fellow - Head of the Group of Biophysics (1971-1977) of the Institute of Plant Biochemistry (now the Durmishidze Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology ) of the Georgian Academy of Sciences ( Tbilisi), in 1977- 1981 - Associate Professor of the Georgian State Agrarian University , in 1981- 1983 - Senior Research Fellow - Deputy Head of the Department of Theoretical Investigations of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and Electrochemistry of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, in 1983- 1997 - Head of the Department of Physics (1983-1993) and Professor (1993-1997) of the Georgian State Agrarian University . Urushadze is co-author of the Semi-Classical Method of Calculation of Kinetic Parameters of the Chemical and Biochemical Reactions in Polar Liquids (Method of Dogonadze-Urushadze, 1971), co-author of the Quantum-Mechanical Model of Enzyme Catalysis (with Mikhail Volkenshtein, Revaz Dogonadze and others, 1972- 1975) and co-author of the Hypothesis about Quantum-Mechanical Mechanism of influence of Nonpolar Media over Biochemical Reactions ( 1971- 1972, 1979, 1986- 1989), strenghened the suggestion expressed earlier by Max Perutz.
