The manga and live action series has a stronger implication connecting him and the other Shitenno as Prince Endymion's (Mamoru in a past life) bodyguards and friends. He is initially the most outwardly loyal towards his 'Master' after regaining his lost memories and works to sway his associates back to Endymion's side.

One initial concern with the original dubbing of the anime into english is the anime-only implication Zoisite and Kunzite were homosexual lovers. Although he had no breasts to speak of, his effeminate appearance was predictably utilized to portray the character as a woman. Fan reaction to the change was highly mixed. Many feel the gender change was inevitable in the conversion. Others point to the idea that the personality change in the character and the choice of voice actor made Zoisite more interesting, gender nonwithstanding. In many circles he is still remembered mostly as his American dub incarnation, especially 'her' laugh.
