Zbigniew Preisner (born May 20, 1955) is Poland's leading film score composer, best known for his work for the director Krzysztof Kieslowski.


Preisner was born in Bielsko-Biala, Poland. He studied history and philosophy at Krakow, and never received formal lessons in music, instead teaching himself by copying down parts from records.

Preisner is best known for his work on Kieslowski's movies. Some of those movies make reference to a fictitious Dutch composer by the name of Van den Budenmayer, and Preisner writes the music which in the plot of the movie is said to be by Budenmayer.

After working with fellow Pole, Agnieszka Holland on Kieslowski's , Preisner was hired by producer Francis Ford CoppolaGeorge Lucas, Michael Jackson and Francis Ford Coppola filming Captain EO Francis Ford Coppola (born April 7, 1939) is an American film director. Career 1960 to 1978 Coppola studied film at UCLA and while there, he made numerous short films, including som to write the score for The Secret GardenThe Secret Garden is a 1993 film adaptation of the book of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It was directed by Agnieszka Holland and starred three unknown British children in the key roles of Mary Lennox, Dickon and Colin Craven. 11 year old Surr, directed by Holland.

Although Preisner is most closely associated with Kieslowski, he has written for other directors, winning a César in 1996 for his work on Jean Becker 's Elisa. He has won a number of other awards, including another César in 1994 for , and the Silver Bear from the Berlin Film FestivalOne of the "A" festivals in Europe. The Berlin International Film Festival also called the Berlinale is held annually in February and started 1951 after an initiative of the American, who occupied part of the city after World War II. The jury always place in 1997 for The Island on Bird Street .

Joni Mitchell'sJoni Mitchell (born Roberta Joan Anderson November 7 1943, Fort Macleod, Alberta) is a Canadian musician and painter. Initially working in Toronto and western Canada, she was associated with the burgeoning folk music scene of the mid- 1960s in New York Ci symphonic-rock CD "Travelogue," released in 2002, includes a version of Preisner's "Song For The Unification of Europe" written for Three Colors: Blue.

In 1998, Requiem for My Friend, Preisner's first large scale work not written for film, was premiered. It was originally intended as a narrative work to be written by Krzysztof PiesiewiczKrzysztof Marek Piesiewicz (born on October 25, 1945 in Warsaw, Poland) is a Polish lawyer, screenwriter, and politician, who is currently a member of the Polish Parliament and head of the Ruch Spoleczny (RS) or Social Movement Party. Piesiewicz studied l and directed by Kieslowski, but after Kieslowski's death, it instead became a sort of memorial to him.

He composed the theme music for the monumental 26 parts BBCThe British Broadcasting Corporation BBC is primarily a national publicly-funded broadcaster based in the United Kingdom, which also has some international services. Some of the international services (such as BBC cable TV in America, Canada and elsewhere documentary, called as People's Century (1998).

Preisner's style is basically Romantic, with Jean Sibelius being an acknowledged influence.
