Zadie Smith is an English novelist. She was born in London in 1975 and educated at King's College, Cambridge.

Her first novel, White Teeth, won the Whitbread First Novel award in 2000, and was made into a short TV series for Channel 4.

Her second novel, The Autograph Man, was published in 2002.

The main character of White Teeth is, like Smith herself, a mixed-race (Black-Caribbean/White) Londoner, born in the mid-1970s. The main character of the second novel is a Jewish/Chinese Londoner.
