Sokhotsky was born in Warsaw, Poland, where he attended state gymnasium. In 1864 he graduated from the Physics and Mathematical Faculty at the University of St. Petersburg. In 1867 he received his Master's degree and in 1873 his doctorate. His Master's dissertation was practically the first text in Russian mathematical literature on Cauchy method of residue and published in 1868Events January 3 Meiji Emperor declares " Meiji Restoration", his own restoration to full power, against the supporters of the Tokugawa Shogunate. January 10 Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu declares emperor's declaration "illegal" and attacks Kyoto. Pro-Emperor. The dissertation itself contains many original grasps, which have been also ascribed to other mathematicians.
