Home > Yuengling

Yuengling is a brand of beer sold by the Yuengling Brewing Company of Pottsville, Pennsylvania. It is the oldest brewer of beer in the United States, and was first established as the Eagle Brewery in 1829 by David G. Yuengling. Besides its Pottsville facility, Yuengling also maintains additional operations in Tampa, Florida. The company is still owned by the Yuengling family.

During the Prohibition era, Yuengling survived by producing non-alcoholic beer, commonly known as " near beer." After the 18th Amendment was repealed in 1933, Yuengling sent a truckload of beer to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in appreciation, which arrived the day the amendment was repealed. Yuengling also opened a dairy during Prohibition, which remained in business until 1985.

In the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area, ordering a "lager" at a bar or restaurant is understood to mean Yuengling Lager.
