The area was once occupied by the Juaneņo Indians. In 1769 a Spanish expedition passed through that included a soldier named Jose Yorba. In 1809 Yorba petitioned the King of Spain for a land grant and received the 62,000 acres that became Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. A section of the land was sold to the Janss Corporation in 1907, and it proceeded to subdivide the land and sell it for agriculture. It was connected to Los Angeles by the Pacific Electric Railroad. The small town turned into a growing city in the 1960s and was incorporated in 1967.
U.S. President Richard Nixon was born here in 1913, and Yorba Linda is home to the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace.
