Yaroslav I the Wise ( 978- 1054) was thrice prince of Novgorod and Kiev, uniting the two principalities for a time under his rule.

In 1010 he has founded the city of Yaroslavl (named after him).

The son of Vladimir the Great of Kiev and Rogneda of Polotsk, Yaroslav married Anna, Ingigerd Olofsdotter, daughter of king Olaf Skötkonung of Sweden and later to widowed Astrid Olofsdotter of Sweden, another daughter of Olof Skötkonung.

He had three daughters and seven sons, only Anastasia being Astrid's daughter.

Yaroslav's granddaughter, his son Vsevolod's daughter named Eupraxia, was married to Henry III, Holy Roman EmperorHenry III ( 1017- 1056) was a member of the Salian (sometimes Franconian) dynasty of Holy Roman Emperors. Born in 1017, he became king of Germany upon the death of his father, the emperor Conrad II on June 4, 1039. He was crowned emperor by the Pope in 10.
