Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture is the traditional homeland of most Koreans in China. In addition, the population also includes Han Chinese and other minorities. Officially part of the Jilin Province, it is south of Heilongjiang, east of Jilin's Baishan City, north of North Korea, and west of Russia.
The prefectural capital is Yanji, and the area is 42,700 km² (one quarter of Jilin Province, about the size of The Netherlands).
The Prefecture has an important BohaiAlternate meaning: Bohai Sea Bohai (or in the Korean context Balhae was a kingdom in northeast Asia from AD 698 to 926, occupying parts of modern-day China ( Manchuria), Korea, and Russia. Bohai was founded by Dae Joyeong who was a former general of Gogur (extinct, non-Korean, non-Han) archaeological site: the Ancient Tombs at Longtou MountainThe Ancient Tombs at Longtou Mountain are a collection of 12 burials for royalty of the Bohai Kingdom. It is located on the Longtou Mountain, southeast Toudao Township , Helong County , Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin. The most famous of the b, which includes the Mausoleum of Princess ZhenxiaoThe Mausoleum of Princess Zhenxiao of was made in 793 by the early Bohai Kingdom during the Tang Dynasty, and is a part of the Ancient Tombs at Longtou Mountain in Jilin. The Mausoleum contains, among other things (see below), the first complete discovere.
The prefecture is subdivided into 8 county-level divisionsDue to the large population and area of China its political divisions have always consisted of several levels since ancient times. The constitution of the People's Republic of China guarantees three levels of government. Currently, however, there are five: 6 county-level cities (县级市) and 2 counties (县):
