The factual accuracy of this article is disputed .

Xenuphobia is a derogatory slang term used to describe the fear of invasion by aliens from outerspace. The term first appeared on the Internet approximately around the year 1995 and its origins are predicated in Scientology flying-saucer mythology.

In Scientology mythology (which are kept secret until customers purchase a considerable amount of "courses" for even more considerable amounts of money) described in a document called "Operating Thetan Level 3" or "OT3" for short.

OT3 tells of a Galactic tyrant by the name of Lord Xenu (a.k.a. Xemu) who had a population problem and solved it by collecting his surplus citizens, freezing them, and transporting them to Teegeeack (which is now called Earth) where they were chained to volcanoes and then blown to bits with fusion bombs (hence Scientology's use of volcanoes in advertising). It's these invisible murdered space alien fragments which attach themselves to humans and cause all of humanity's problems and it's Scientology Dianetics and other "courses" which seek to scrape these space aliens off of people who sign up for Scientology processing.

The term Xenuphobia isn't a term used by Scientology customers, however; it's often used by critics of Scientology's alleged crimes and abuses; it's used by other individuals to describe flying saucer believers who fear invasions, take over of one's government, and other outerspace related conspiracy beliefs.

A marked example of who Xenuphobia can be evidenced in the behavior of a Scientologist is to utter the name "Xenu" within their hearing, or to describe the contents of OT3. The resulting behavior is typically one of retreat, often with one's hands over one's ears. The phobia often is associated with a phenomena known as " enturbulation" which is another Scientology company related term used to describe anything truthful about Scientology that customers are either not allowed to hear or are not authorized to hear (that is they haven't paid enough money yet for the privilege).
