It is known as a "web log", which when slurred in speech or compounded in writing becomes "weblog". Dropping the first two letters (as often happens in language evolution) yields the unique term blog.
Xanga itself is a community of these blogs, where people share ideas, opinions, and jokes, among other things. It is also a free service, which has contributed greatly to its increasing growth. Every day, new members sign up to start their very own blogs.
Members can subscribe to each other's "Xangas" via a subscription list, through which they are notified of updates.
Information from the website:
Users of the Xanga web service are referred to as "Xangans".
eProps are the currency of appreciation among Xangans. If one user appreciates another user's blog, he may award one or two eProps to that user. This method of "propping" other bloggers helps maintain Xanga's strong community.
Though eProps are intended to reward bloggers who have inspiring blogs, they have degraded over the years into an "I'll prop you if you prop me back" currency.
