1 Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 18.1 km² (7.0 mi²). 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and 4.3 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 23.82% water.

2 Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 28,006 people, 11,816 households, and 7,420 families residing in the city. The population density is 2,036.4/km² (5,278.1/mi²). There are 12,303 housing units at an average density of 894.6/km² (2,318.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.32% White, 0.52% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.72% from other racesThe United States Census Bureau uses the federal government's definitions of race when performing a census.
