Wreckx-N-Effect was another New jack swing group that was the brainchild of producer/ R&B artist Teddy Riley, but they also did * pop rap and party rap . The formation occurred in 1988 and composed of Riley's own brother, Markell Riley ,their half-sibling Brandon Mitchell , and friend Aquil Davidson . They became a part of Motown Records and their self-titled debut album came out the next year. The single "New Jack Swing" came in 14th place on the R&B chart. But they did even better on the single "Rump Shaker" from the 1992 album, Hard or Smooth . It made #1 on the rap chart, as well as #2 on the r&b and Billboard Hot 100 charts. They obtained a platinum certification as a result, which was the reason why they switched from Motown to MCA when they never got the props that they deserved from the record company. Unfortunately, Mitchell wouldn't live to see the grand success of the rap group due to him being slain by gunshots in 1989. Wreckx-N-Effect returned in 1996 with their latest album, Rap's New Generation .
