Home > Wonderwall

"Wonderwall" is a song by British rock group Oasis from their second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory.

Released as a single in 1995, it peaked a number 2 in the UK charts. It is their most successful single to date, and perhaps their most popular song. Though it was kept from becoming 1995's Christmas number 1 by Michael Jackson's "Earth Song", in the long run, it appears "Wonderwall" has fared better against the test of time and is currently featured at number 96 in the Uk's list of best selling singles. It is also the song with which Oasis temporarily "broke" America, before famously deciding that, actually, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

The song was written by Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher for his then-girlfriend, Meg Mathews . Noel married Mathews, but they were divorced in 2001. Since then, Noel's attitude towards the song has changed and Oasis play it less often.

The song is also notable as the video was filmed in the relatively brief period when bassist Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan quit the band due to nervous exhaustion and was replaced by Scott McLeod. Shortly afterwards, McLeod dissapeared from an American tour and Guigsy agreed to return.

The song was covered in an easy listening style by Mike Flowers' Pop .
