Home > Wolphin

A wolphin is a rare hybrid, formed from a cross between a False Killer Whale and a dolphin. Currently only one exists an in captivity, in the Sea Life Park in Hawaii. It shares characteristics of both dolphins and orcas.

Though the animal is a whale, both due to its size, and in the sense that it is of the order Cetacea, both its sires are members of the family Delphinidae. As such the Wolphin is more 'dolphin' than 'whale'. However the terms can be synomomous. For more detail on the ambiguity of the term, see Whale.
