The town is in the northeast corner of the county. There is a village named Wolcott in the town.
The Town of Wolcott was formed 1807 in Seneca County, New York before the creation of Wayne County. The discovery of iron ore in the county led to the smelting operation at Wolcott furnace north of Wolcott village from 1821 to 1869.
The town's north border is Lake Ontario, and the east town line is Cayuga County, New York.
