Woerden is a municipality and a city in the central Netherlands.
Woerden received city rights in 1372. It is situated on the river Oude_Rijn.
During building and reconstruction works in the city center of Woerden, a lot of old Roman buildings and ships were found, as Woerden was a castellum in the Roman empire.
As of May 2004, Woerden is participating in a test where the 1 cent and 2 cent Euro coins are not used - all prices are rounded to the nearest 5 cents. The results of this test will help determine if the Netherlands continues to mint the small denominations.
