Members of the Wizengamot include Elders, who are the senior and respected witches and wizards of the country, and the Court Scribe, who acts as the Wizengamot's stenographer. The Minister for Magic, Senior Undersecretary to the Minister, and Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement also sit on the Wizengamot ex officio.
The Wizengamot try Harry and reluctantly dismisses the charges. From references in the book, it appears that a Wizengamot is like a Supreme Court of sorts. That is, references to "the whole Wizengamot" (in Percy's letter to Ron) imply that this type of trial is unusual.
Albus Dumbledore holds the position of Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, except during the period coinciding with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in which he was removed from the post because of his insistence that Voldemort had returned (he was reinstated by the end of the novel).Wizengamot is pronounced WIHZ-en-guh-maht in the audio CDs.
