Winifred Burkle is a fictional character played by Amy Acker that appeared in the television series Angel during seasons two through five.
Winifred, or "Fred" as most people called her, was born in Texas. Not much is known about her life there, except that she was very excited to move to "the big city" to go to university. Then she moved to Los Angeles and worked at a public library. When she was shelving a demon language book she read it out loud and was sucked into a portal. Five years would go by until Cordelia had a vision about her being sucked into the portal.
At first Angel just sent a member from the portal (which led to Lorne's home world Pylea) but something went wrong and Cordelia was sent there too! So Angel and the gang set out to save Cordelia and go to Pylea. When they got there Angel saved Fred and, by the end of season 2, Fred came back to L.A. with the gang.
During season 3, Fred was trying to find her place with Angel Investigations . First she had a crush on Angel but that didn't last very long before she and Gunn shared their first kiss, crushing Wesley's hope for a relationship with her. Throughout the years on Angel, Fred was a very important part of the team, until her sad end. Infected by the god Illyria, Fred died in Wesley's arms in the episode A Hole In The World .
