Winchester is a census-designated place located in Clark County, Nevada. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 26,958. An unincorporated township, it is governed by the County.

1 Geography

Winchester is located at 36°8'9" North, 115°7'15" West (36.135971, -115.120856) 1.

It sits in the Central-East part of the Las Vegas Valley. To the North it borders the City of Las Vegas, to the West and South is the township of Paradise, and to the East is Sunrise Manor

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 11.2 km² (4.3 mi²). 11.2 km² (4.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

2 Demographics

As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 26,958 people, 11,986 households, and 6,052 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 2,415.0/km² (6,253.2/mi²). There are 13,535 housing units at an average density of 1,212.5/km² (3,139.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 71.83% White, 7.03% African American, 0.87% Native American, 5.36% Asian, 0.44% Pacific Islander, 9.66% from other racesThe United States Census Bureau uses the federal government's definitions of race when performing a census. The racial categories are officially described as follows:¹ The categories represent a s, and 4.81% from two or more races. 29.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,986 households out of which 20.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.3% are married couplesMarriage is a relationship that plays a key role in the definition of many families. Precise definitions vary historically and between and within cultures, but it has been an important concept as a socially sanctioned bond between people who (usually) are living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 49.5% are non-families. 38.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 3.01.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 19.8% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 106.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 105.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $32,251, and the median income for a family is $39,451. Males have a median income of $27,886 versus $22,453 for females.
