Wilm Hosenfeld ( May 2 1895 - August 13 1952 near Stalingrad) - a German officer who saved the Polish pianist and composer Wladyslaw Szpilman from death in the ruins of Warsaw. He and several of his fellow officers, who had sypathy for the Jews and became ashamed of what their fellow officers were doing, offered help to many Jews aswell as Szpilman.

Hosenfeld was taken captive by the Soviets on January 17, 1945. He was sentenced for a 25 years in labour camp for alleged war crimes, despite many persons tried to plead his case. He died in a camp due to hard conditions.
