Whitewater Township is a township in Grand Traverse County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 2,467.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 138.8 km² (53.6 mi²). 123.9 km² (47.8 mi²) of it is land and 14.9 km² (5.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.77% water.

3 Demographics

As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 2,467 people, 896 households, and 712 families residing in the township. There are 896 households out of which 37.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.8% are married couples living together, 4.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.5% are non-families. 15.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.72 and the average family size is 3.02.

In the township the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 103.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.8 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $49,572, and the median income for a family is $54,737. Males have a median income of $38,500 versus $22,438 for females. The per capita income for the township is $21,890. 4.9% of the population and 3.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.1% of those under the age of 18 and 4.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
