The Whitney Museum is particularly known for displaying contemporay American art, even more up-to-date than the Museum_of_Modern_Art. It is most famous for its long-standing tradition of hosting a biennial art show that displays many lesser-known artists new to the American art scene.

Noted American artist Edward Hopper bequeathed many of his works to the Whitney Museum.

In addition to its traditional collection the Whitney has an internet website that features "NetArt."
