The Town of Whitestown contains the Villages of New York Mills, Oriskany, Whitesboro, and Yorkville. The town was formed in 1788 with a size of 12 million acres (49,000 km²) and is known as the "Mother of Towns" because of the many towns and counties formed from its expanse.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 70.4 km² (27.2 mi²). 70.4 km² (27.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.04% is water.
As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 18,635 people, 7,544 households, and 5,024 families residing in the town. The population density is 264.5/km² (685.2/mi²). There are 7,945 housing units at an average density of 112.8/km² (292.1/mi²).
