The White-winged Sandpiper, Prosobonia leucoptera, is an extinct member of the large wader family Scolopacidae, that is endemic to the Tuamotu Islands in French Polynesia.

It was discovered on Tahiti in 1773 during Captain Cook’sJames Cook ( October 27, 1728 February 14, 1779) was a British explorer and navigator. He made three voyages to the Pacific Ocean, in which its main shorelines were discovered. Cook was also a map maker. Introduction Cook was born in Marton in Cleveland, voyage, but became extinct in the nineteenth century. Only one museum specimen is known to exist.
