Whisky Galore is a well-known 1949 Ealing comedy film, in which a cargo vessel is sunk off a remote Scottish island - with 50,000 cases of whisky aboard. The islanders attempt to keep the whisky for themselves, against the best efforts of the authorities in the shape of an English Home Guard captain.

The story of the film is based on the novel of the same name by Compton Mackenzie, which in turn was based on a real-life incident that occurred on the Hebridean island of Eriskay. The film was shot on the island of Barra.
