Home > Walther von Brauchitsch


Walther von Brauchitsch ( 1881 - 1948) was a high rank officer in the German Reichswehr since 1921. A supporter of Hitler since his rise to power in 1933. He became chief commander of the land forces in 1938 and commanded during the campaigns in Poland, Denmark, Norway , Western Europe and the Balkans. Promoted to Field Marshall in 1940. Relieved of command over the land forces on 19th December 1941 and retired from active service. Died in custody in 1948 before being tried for alleged war crimes.
