Much of the range is located in the Eagle Cap Wildnerness Area , as well as the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest . The range is drained by the Wallowa River, which flows in the valley along its northeastern side, as well as its tributaries, including the Miniam River , which flows along the southwest side of the range.
The highest point in the range is Eagle Cap with elevation of 9595 ft (2925 m).
