WKRG has been the CBS station in Mobile, Alabama since its inception in 1955. The station was brought to the city when a radio signal tower was erected, putting WKRG-TV as well as WKRG AM and FM radio on the air.
In 2002, the big focus of the television channel switched to weather and news, and the channel's slogan was edited to make light of it: WKRG-5 became WKRG News 5, and it was touted as Mobile's "weather authority".
The affiliate debuted a new slogan in July 2004: News 5: Coverage you can count on, in conjunction with WKRG's 50th year in broadcasting.
Currently, the evening news desk is helmed by Mel Showers and Rose Ann Haven , with Andrew Findley and Jennifer Mayerle taking over in the mornings and on weekends. The head meteorologist today is Alan Sealls , with Jere Hough , John Nodar , and Chad Watson contributing to weather reports on other newscasts.
