This station signed on in 1953 from the Congress Square Hotel in Downtown Portland, Maine. This location is responsible for part of the station's call letters (CSH). For a number of years, it was the flagship station in the Maine Broadcasting System, a collection of local radio and television concerns.Today, it produces the highest rated and most viewed local news programs in the state, "NewsCenter".
It is also a sister station to WLBZ-2 in Bangor.
WCSH is owned by Gannett Corporation.
