WBMA-LP, channel 58, "ABC33/40", is a low-power television station that licensed to Birmingham. The station began operation on September 6, 1996. The definition of the call letters is W AlaB aM A. WBMA is owned by TV Alabama, Incorporated, which is a subsidiary of Allbritton Communications , which also owns WCFT and controls WJSU through a local marketing agreement. It is the parent station of WCFT Tuscaloosa and WJSU Anniston, which are the ABC affiliates of the Birmingham/Anniston/Tuscaloosa television market. It was created to faciliated the signal of the two stations so that the Birmingham metro area was covered. This station's call letter is the official call letters of the "ABC33/40" occurring to the FCC. The station's current slogan is "Alabama's News Leader".
