It is situated on 600 acres (2.4 km˛) at the intersection of interstate 10 and the Loop 1604 highways (virtually across the street from Six Flags Fiesta Texas) near the northern edge of San Antonio, Texas in Bexar County. The university is also one of the system’s fastest growing schools with an enrollment increase of 12.04% from 2001-2003.
The University of Texas at San Antonio was founded on June 5, 1969 by Governor Preson Smith.
Over 100 bachelor, masters, and doctoral degrees are offered at the university, with several other doctoral programs being developed. UTSA currently has nine colleges and schools including:

Several multi-million dollar projects are either in planning stages or under construction for future growth at the university. President Ricardo Romo has expressed his desire for UTSA to grow into a nationally recognized research university through the upcoming years.
