The United Hockey League is a professional AA-level minor league in ice hockey in the United States. It was established in 1991 as the Colonial Hockey League and renamed to the United Hockey League in 1997. The number of teams in the league has ranged from 5 to 15. In 2003/ 2004 season, the United Hockey League consisted of 11 teams, located mostly in Midwestern US. 3 more teams were added for the 2004/ 2005 season. In the past, the league has also included teams in Canada but it currently has no Canadian team.Two of UHL teams are affiliated with the National Hockey League teams and five more are affiliated with American Hockey League teams.
