1 What is the Underclass?

"The purpose of the under class is to put fear into the middle class."

Most class definition are written by insulated, university educated, upper-middle class people. They are surrounded by a remarkable similiar peer group. They occasionally encounter the upperclass in school and at work. They are jealous of the upperclass. As a result, anything below $50k a year is seen as one large class 'underneath' them, hence the term 'under class'.

To break up this huge group 'under class', a brief definition of upperclass and middleclass is required. 'Working Class' must be also be defined.

2 Upper Class

The upper class do not need to work to put food on their table. Their parents didn't either. Upper class means having significant influence upon government(s) and travelling by private aircraft.

3 Middle Class

The middle class work 240+ days a year, every year, in the legal economy to put food on the table. Middle class means owning a house and a car. Buying kid's shoes, and buying new car tires are not financial crises. Middle class means having paid vacations.

4 Working Class

The working class tries to work 250+ days a year, every year, doing honest work to put food on the table. Job security is a myth.

They usually work in the legal economy, meaning they pay taxes.

Home ownership is not possible.

Food, clothing, shelter and transportation are day to day issues.

Access to capital, access to the courts, and access to police protection of their property and their persons is non-existant.

5 Under Class

The under class do not belong to the above.

Legitimate society has no place for the underclass. These are the taboo. Yet, somehow, they put food on their table too. This is the cause of jealousy and fear in the middle class.
