USA Roller Sports is recognized by the International Federation of Roller Sports (FIRS) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) as the National Governing Body for Competitive Roller Sports in the United States. USA Roller Sports has its headquarters in Lincoln, Nebraska adjacent to the National Roller Skating Museum. USA Roller Sports sanctions competitive roller skating and inline skating, speed skating, figure skating, roller hockey, jam skating , and fitness skating events.

USA Roller Sports hosts the US National Figure Skating and Speedskating Championships as well as sanctions various local, regional, and national competitions. Furthermore, USA Roller Sports holds the exclusive control in determining Team USA to represent the United States in Roller Hockey, Speed skating, and Figure Skating at the FIRS World Championships. Additionally, USA Roller Sports is the official body that conducts trials for the Pan-American Games in which roller skating still has a stronghold although this is changing. The United States Congress is reviewing its support of roller skating in the Pan-American games and it is unsure the final outcome.

In the early 2000s, USA Hockey InLine partnered with USA Ice Hockey and broke away from USA Roller Sports. Today, there is ambiguity of jurisdiction regarding roller hockey (inline hockey) with the majority of roller hockey players and tournaments being under USA Hockey InLine's power. In response, USA Roller Sports partnered up with the Amatuer Athletic Union (AAU) however the results are inconclusive.

Their motto is "USARS is dedicated to creating, enhancing and conducting the best competitions and programs for roller sports. We instill the drive to win and be the absolute best…in sport and in life"
