During his rule, Barad-dűr was re-occupied by Sauron, and in the north Saruman proclaimed himself Lord of Isengard. Turgon was powerless to stop both events; at the time, Saruman was still considered an ally, though in fact he had not only made himself independent of Gondor, but had effectively stolen Isengard and was becoming a traitor.
Turgon was followed by his son Ecthelion II at his death in 2953.
