A new type of Traveller Norwegian evolved in the late 50s when hitchhiking became a popular pastime of studemts and hippies alike in Norway. When Traveldude Norsk is spoken it is spoken even in normal time, and not in cars. Many people were shocked to find their passenger responding in Traveldude Norsk and many were assumed the passenger to be high on drugs and delivered to a hospital to go into rehab. Traveldude Norsk disappeared in the early 80s when hitchiking became less popular and people realised it was cheaper and more safe to take the train.
It is not uncommon in Norwegian airports to hear announcements in Norwegian, English and Traveller Norwegian. Many feel that it is a sign that they are going somewhere.
