The aim of Translink is to coordinate transport services run by Queensland Rail, the Brisbane City Council , and other public transport service operators in Brisbane. The system allows a ticket purchased on any of these public transport services to be used for travel on any of the other ones, provided that it covers the appropriate zones.
The Zones radiate out in concentric rings from the centre of the city. There are a total of 23 Zones stretching from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast, although some of these zones do not extend continuously from one end to the other (ie. the northern and southern zones do not meet). The zones stretch as far west as Ipswich and Helidon.
Tickets available include a single (one-way); a daily (unlimited travel with the zones described); or an off-peak daily (unlimited travel in the zones described, but not between 3:30pm and 7:00pm).
The borders between zones contain precincts, areas where the zoning of the ticket bought will depend on whether the travel is inbound or outbound.
