The College of New Jersey, commonly called TCNJ, is a four-year public institution located in Ewing Township, New Jersey which is a northern suburb of Trenton, New Jersey. It is located off of Route 31 and is enclosed by an on campus loop called Metzger Drive. It was founded in 1855 when it was established by the New Jersey state legislature. Originally located on Clinton Avenue in Trenton it did not move to the 210-acre campus in Ewing Township until 1928. It is usually ranked as the top public college in New Jersey and one of the top in the United States though as a publicly funded state school tuition remains relatively low. The College of New Jersey has a 4 credit system where students take 4 classes a semester. The college employs 324 full time faculty members. The College of New Jersey maintains a liberal arts curriculum with a combination of core classes and general education. TCNJ’s mascot is the Lion.

In 2004 The College of New Jersey was named one of the nation's top schools, according to rankings published in the 2005 edition of Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. This is the first time TCNJ had achieved the “Most Competitive” category.

1 Student Housing

With an average of 6,000 total students, TCNJ accommodates about 4,000 on campus in 12 dorms. Freshmen and sophomores are guaranteed housing on campus. Juniors and seniors enter a lottery to determine if they get on campus housing. Travers and Wolfe, commonly called T/W, is a ten-story building with 2 towers that is reserved for freshman. Cromwell is a six-story freshman dorm. Decker is a six-story sophomore dorm. Ewing Township has limited all new buildings be at a height of no more than three stories. None of the buildings, except for T/W, Cromwell, and Decker, are over three stories.

2 Lakes

There are two lakes on campus. Lake Ceva is on its north side and Lake Sylva is on its west side.
