Test cricket is the longest form of the sport of cricket. It is regarded by players and serious fans as the ultimate test of playing ability (as compared to One-day International cricket).Test matches are played only between national representative teams which have Test status, as determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Test matches are a subset of first-class cricket, the form of cricket played over several days and officially sanctioned by the ICC. Only ten nations of the world have been given Test status.
Note: Most of the information here pertains to men's cricket. Test matches are also played in women's cricket. Unless explicitly mentioned, most Test matches or Test cricket referred to is in regards to men's cricket.

2 Test cricket playing nations
There are currently ten Test-playing nations, listed below with the date of each nation's Test debut shown in brackets:
- Australia ( 15th March, 1877)
- England ( 15th March, 1877)
- South Africa ( 12th March, 1889) (Note: Banned from international cricket from 1970 to 1991 due to their policy of apartheid)

- New ZealandThe New Zealand cricket team also known as the Black Caps played their first Test in 1930 vs England in Christchurch, New Zealand. It took the team until 1956 to win a Test, against the West Indies at Eden Park in Auckland. - IndiaThe Indian cricket team is a national cricket team representing India. It made its Test debut on June 25, 1932 at Lord's, England. In 1983, they won the Cricket World Cup and reached the final in 2003. Some of its current members are Sachin Tendulkar, Sau ( 25th June, 1932) (Note: pre-1947 India included Pakistan and Bangladesh.
