He debuted in the mid 1990s in and around the independent promotions of Detroit. He won the world title for Pro Wrestling Worldwide (PWW) , an independent westling promotion based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan as Rhino Richards. He later joined Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1999 and became a star there.
He is a former ECW World Television Champion and was the last ECW World Heavyweight Champion. When ECW folded in 2001, he joined World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), then known as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), where he has been ever since. He seriously injured his neck in late 2001, and had to undergo cervical fusion surgery that kept him out of action for slightly over a year.
