*In common language, a task is part of a set of actions which accomplish a job; the sense is that 'useful work is getting done'. Task analysis is the analysis or a breakdown of exactly how a task is accomplished, such as what sub-tasks are required. This information can then be used for many purposes, such as improving the design of tools or procedures that aid in performing the task. These tools can be either physical implements or software. - In the computer field, a task is "an execution path through address space". In other words, a set of program instructions is loaded in memory. The address register s have been loaded with the initial address of the program. At the next clock cycle, the CPU will start execution, in accord with the program. The sense is that some part of 'a plan is being accomplished'. As long as the program remains in this part of the address space, the task can continue, in principle, indefinitely, unless the program instructions contain a halt, exit, or return.
- In the computer field, 'task' has the sense of a real-time application, as distinguished from process, which takes up space (memory), and execution time. See operating system. A process can be thought of as having life -- Kaare Christian .
- Both 'task' and ' processA process is a naturally occurring or designed sequence of operations or events, possibly taking up time, space, expertise or other resource, which produces some outcome. A process may be identified by the changes it creates in the properties of one or mo' should be distinguished from eventThere are many kinds of events In common language, an event is something that happens (changes), in particular something special of limited duration, for example a major football match or pop music concert. An event is an outcome, result, reference or sin, which takes place at a specific time and place, and which can be planned for in a computer program. See hotspotA hotspot is a center of high activity within a larger area of low activity. The term is applied to different things in different contexts: In geology see Hotspot (geology). In genetics, a hotspot can be a position on the DNA where mutations occur with an.
- In a computer graphic user interface (GUI), an event can be as simple as a mouse click which is displayed on a certain part of the canvasThis article is about the fabric. For other uses of the word canvas see canvas (disambiguation . Canvas is an extremely heavy-duty fabric used for making sails, tents, marquees, and other functions where sturdiness is required. Artists use small (or somet.
- In older text-based computer interfaces, an event might be a keystroke.
For a real-time system, a computer may be too slow, so dedicated hardware solutions for performing a task may be employed, rather than a pure software solution. This hardware might be a digital, or an analog circuit, or a hybrid of many technologies.
For many commercial businesses, a person may be an integral part of the solution. In this case, the entire 'person(s) + (hardware/software) system' serve as the agentAn agent is an autonomous entity with an ontological commitment and agenda of its own. The term originated in philosophy. Each agent possesses the ability to act autonomously; this is an important distinction because a simple act of obedience to a command of the task which is being performed.
