Swidnica ( German Schweidnitz) is a town in southwestern Poland. According to the 2004 estimate the town has a total population of 60,674. Situated in the Lower Silesian Voivodship (since 1999), previously in Walbrzych Voivodship (1975-1998). It's the 7th largest town of that unit of administrative division.

1 History

In the 18th century Swidnica was an important fortification. The importance of the city declined with the developpment of Walbrzych after 1945.
