The original connection was run by Lokaalspoorwegmaatschappij Hollands Noorderkwartier ( 1884 - 1935). On
The line was opened op November 3rd, 1887. The connection follows a curly path, to reduce the amount of land that had to be confiscated. The train uses steamtraction, from 1929 also motortraction.
The line was closed from January 1st 1936 until May 29th 1940.
On January 5th 1941 the line was closed for ever, just as the railways station in Medemblik.

Nowadays the railways is in use as a touristic attraction. A masterpiece in the collection is the former Nederlandse SpoorwegenNederlandse Spoorwegen (NS is the main public transport railway company in the Netherlands. It uses the tracks and other railway network infrastructure supplied by ProRail. It is fully owned by the Dutch state. There are plans for a share issue to the pub locomotive 7742, nicknamed Bello.
