The district includes the extreme northeastern part of the Avalon Peninsula including the northern half of the City of St. John's, and the eastern half of the Town of Conception Bay South . St. John's East was won by Liberal Boonie Hickey in 1993 but was captured by Tory Norman Doyle. The Conservative Party of Canada MP remains the incumbent.
