SpaceDev is an aerospace company, now most prominent for its spaceflight work. It built most of the hybrid rocket engine for the Tier One suborbital space program. It is also developing a piloted suborbital spacecraft of its own, the SpaceDev Dream Chaser, in collaboration with NASA.

SpaceDev was founded in 1997 by Jim Benson , who as of 2004 serves as the company's CEO. The company's objective is to make routine commercial spaceflight possible.

Investors are over-the-counter trading the company's stock, ticker SPDV. Speculative trading drove the stock price up 60% in anticipation of President Bush's Vision for Space Exploration speech on January 14, 2004. The stock has sustained a strong value beginning prior to SpaceShipOne's first suborbital flight on June 21, 2004.

The company is based in Poway, California.
