SoSH hit national significance during the 2003-2004 Major League Baseball offseason, where it was perceived to consistently "scoop" more mainstream sports media such as ESPN in reporting the Alex Rodriguez trade machinations involving Nomar Garciaparra, the Red Sox and the New York Yankees.
In addition, SoSH is frequented by a number of Red Sox players and personnel, including star pitcher Curt Schilling, who is a regular member (alias C_Schilling1966), and frequently lets SoSH members in on his thoughts that more mainstream media is not privy too. Red Sox executives and Boston sports media have recently started using -- or at least reading -- the forum as well.
The site is an example of an online site routinely beating more mainstream media in the reporting of news.
