1 History

In medieval times Soest was the biggest city of Westphalia, however after it liberated itself from the bishops of Cologne in the Soester Fehde in 1449 it slowly lost importance, only to gain it again when in 1816 the new prussian government created the district. In 19741974 is a common year starting on Tuesday (click on link for calendar). Events January-February January 5 Dungeons & Dragons officially released. February 4 Patricia Hearst, the 19 year old granddaughter of publisher William Randolph Hearst, is kidnapped the district was merged with the neighboring district Lippstadt.

2 Geography

Geographically it covers the northern part of SauerlandThe Sauerland is a hill chain in the south-west of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is an area covered with a lot of forests, and is sparsely inhabited. The main rivers through the district are the RuhrEssen-Kettwig The Ruhr is a large river in western Germany starting near the town of Winterberg in Sauerland and ending in the Rhine in the city of Duisburg. Along the river, a number of large industrial cities are found, forming the Ruhr area. German riv, LippeThe Lippe is a river in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is an affluent of the Rhine and 255 km in length. The source is located at the edge of the Teutoburg Forest in Bad Lippspringe close to the city of Paderborn. It runs westward through Lippstadt a and the Möhne, which also forms the biggest artificial lake of North Rhine-Westphalia. The highest elevation is in near Warstein with 580m, the lowest with 65m is the LippeThe Lippe is a river in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is an affluent of the Rhine and 255 km in length. The source is located at the edge of the Teutoburg Forest in Bad Lippspringe close to the city of Paderborn. It runs westward through Lippstadt a valley.
