Sky Digital is the brand name for British Sky Broadcasting's digital satellite television service, transmitted from SES Astra satellites located at 28.2 °E and Eutelsat's Eurobird satellite at 28.5°E. Provided a universal Ku band LNB (9.75/10.600GHz) is fitted at the end of the dish and pointed at the satellite most digital receivers will receive the free to air channels.

To view the encrypted content, a Videoguard equipped receiver (all of which are dedicated to the Sky Digital service, and cannot be used to decrypt other services) needs to be used. Some broadcasts are free-to-air, and unencrypted, some are encrypted but do not require a monthly subscription, some are encrypted and require a monthly subscription, and some are pay-per-view services.

Since its launch in 1998 Sky Digital has changed the way people in the UK watch Television. There are now interactive services including shopping, email cinema listings and online banking. This even goes as far as programming, with the BBC and ITV providing interactive services including broadcasting multiple football games or snooker matches.

Sky News also gets the interactive treatment with 8 video screens with News on Demand.

All these services are launched from a user-friendly EPG from which you can order Films via the Box Office service.

A couple of years ago a new service called Sky Plus was launched which allowed viewers to pause live television and schedule programs to record in the future.
