Released as Dream Theater's seventh studio album, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence tackles serious issues. "The Glass Prison" describes Alcoholism, "Blind Faith" discusses religion, and "The Great Debate" explores the both sides of the debate on stem cell research.
The second disc deals heavily with a theme of mental illnesses.
While this album has been criticized for relying too heavily on trite ballad sections, some fans consider this a natural progression from the band's earlier albums.
Like most of Dream Theaters albums, Six Degrees covers a wide variety of musical styles. "The Glass Prison" is a nonstop barrage of heavy metal, which is an exhilirating start to this album. "Blind Faith" takes a calmer air which is followed by the powerful song "Misunderstood". "The Great Debate" urges you to choose a stance on the issue of stem cell research which makes for a surprisingly musical piece. The first disk closes out with "Disappear", a beautifully composed piano ballad which really serves as a fitting end to the marvelous first disk. -- 00:32, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)
